Iron ore handling in Narvik
Narvik is the harbor used by the Swedish minerals group LKAB to export ore pellets to international markets. LNS is responsible for handling the ore by transporting it and loading it onto ships.
LKAB handles approx. 15 - 20 million tons of iron ore every year, and LNS transports part of this iron ore. In addition to transporting it and loading it onto ships, LNS is also involved in cleaning the transportation systems.
The contract with LKAB expires in 2009. At that time a new ore harbor in Narvik, SILA, should be completed and ready for use.
LNS is a main contractor in the construction of the new ore harbor through a partnering agreement with LKAB.
