Tunnels
LNS is the Norwegian contractor that blasted the most rock in 2008. More than 1,000,000 cubic metres of rock were blasted in various tunnel projects and other underground projects.
LNS has built several of Norway's longest tunnels, and the group is a central Norwegian actor in this field.
Transport and communications tunnel projects primarily involve road tunnels, but LNS also has experience in constructing tunnels for hydroelectric power plants.
Projects in this industry are often interdisciplinary in nature, and LNS has specialists on staff from several different fields; plant engineering, underground operations, and engineering geology. The group’s expertise is unique and in high demand, even from international clients.
LNS even set a new world record in tunnel advancement at one point. The record was set during work on the Svea tunnel project on Spitsbergen, with an advancement of an astonishing 150 metres per week. LNS achieved this feat even though the conditions were very challenging; tight deadlines, a complex geological makeup, and logistical difficulties.
