Rv 80 Røvik - Strømsnes - A part of the Salten road project

The Salten road project comprises three different road projects, where one project involves improving the condition of the Rv 80 between Rørvik and Strømsnes in the Municipality of Fauske. The objective of this project is to make the roads safer and travel times shorter, and to reduce the environmental impact this road has on local residents in terms of noise emissions.

Innslagspunkt i Røvik tunnel RV 82

Along the current stretch of road between Røvik and Strømsnes there are quite a few homes and other developments. More than half the distance has a speed limit lower than 80 km/h, and large parts of it does not have any form of bike or pedestrian lane where people who are biking or walking can travel safely. At the same time, residents in more than 100 homes suffer from noise levels that exceed the limits established for new roads by the Ministry of the Environment.

Substantial improvements to this road are now underway as part of the Salten road project.

LNS has been contracted to construct a new two-lane road and tunnel between Røvik and Strømsnes. The new road will reduce the driving distance between these two towns by approximately 6.2 kilometres.

This stretch of road will be the first in the region to have a centre divide as a protective measure to prevent head-on collisions.

The road will be partially funded by tolls, and the project assignment consequently also includes building a toll collection station in Strømsnes.

Description
of project

The project involves constructing the new Rv 80 from Røvik to Strømsnes in the Municipality of Fauske, replacing the existing road between the two same towns, as well as connections and adjustments necessary to tie the new road in with the existing network of roads in the area.

The project is to be partially funded by tolls, and the project assignment consequently also includes building a toll collection station.

The project will reduce the driving distance between these two towns by approximately 6.2 kilometres.

The distance of road constructed between Strømsnes and Røvik in this project is approximately 6000 metres, of which 4000 metres are above ground and the remaining 2000 metres are tunnel. Three bridges are also built, ranging from 40 metres to 100 metres, as well as three culverts, sheet pile retaining walls, other retaining walls, sound barriers, and two technical buildings.

The new Rv 80 is constructed with a total road width of 10 metres, and roadway width of 8.0 metres, including a centre divide of 1.0 metre. The road is constructed for speeds of 80 km/h.
