Constructing PPP E18 Kristiansand - Grimstad

LNS is in charge of constructing all seven two-tube tunnels on the new four-lane motorway between Kristiansand and Grimstad. The tunnels have a total length of 12 kilometers, of which the shortest tunnel is 150 meters long and the longest 2.2 kilometers.

This project is very challenging in terms of progress and quality. The geological condition of the area is complex and ever changing. This situation requires substantial rock support and injection work.

Construction of the seven tunnels is estimated to take two years, and all tunnels are scheduled for completion by the end of September 2008. 130 LNS employees have been involved in the construction. LNS’ client for this project is CJV E18 Grimstad – Kristiansand (Bilfinger Berger/Pihl & Søn).

”OPS E18 Kristiansand – Grimstad” is a stretch of road totaling 38 kilometers. In addition to the four-lane motorway and tunnels, the project includes 61 bridges and 75 kilometers of secondary roads. This project will significantly improve road traffic safety, as well as providing greater access to the area. The road is scheduled to be open for traffic on 31 August 2009.

Construction of ”PPP E18 Kristiansand – Grimstad” is modeled on the concept of Public Private Partnership (PPP).
