Kvænangen hydro power project – Transfer tunnel, Boullanjåkka
LNS is the primary contractor for the Boullanjåkka project, which will increase the energy production of Kvænangen hydro power plant by almost ten percent.
LNS is responsible for the new transfer tunnel, which will collect water from several rivers and streams. The tunnel currently being built will run a total length of 7,000 meters and has a cross-section of 21 square meters. Work on the tunnel commenced in August 2007 and will be completed in the fall of 2009.
The project has a stipulated cost of approx. NOK 100 million, and approx. 25 LNS employees have been involved in the work.
The Boullanjåkka project aims to improve the power generation and distribution of the hydro power plant and increase its profitability, as well as providing additional income for the Municipality of Kvænangen.
The project is organized as a partnering agreement between LNS and Kvænangen hydro power plant. This is a form of collaboration where the client and contractor share the risk and the profits.

Description |
The work includes extending the existing tunnel for approx. 1,000 m from 4 m² to 21 m² from Lassojavri to Abbujåkka. Thereafter 6.000 m of tunnel will be excavated with a cross-section 21 m² to Boullanjåkka as well as building 4 shafts and water inlet. Revegetation and cleaning up will be undertaken in the autumn of 2009. |
