LNS receives Special Award for international initiatives

On 10th March, LNS (Leonhard Nilsen & Sønner AS) was presented with the Byggeindustrien Special Award at the Grand Gala during the annual industry trade fair “ByggeDagene 2010” in Oslo. This is the first time that the construction industry in Norway has presented this award, in the presence of representatives from the entire industry.

Managing Director Malvin Nilsen accepted the award on behalf of the company. During the presentation ceremony he mentioned that he very much would have liked to have had his son, Frode Nilsen, with him to accept the honour; however, Frode is currently working for the company overseas.
“We accept this award with great pride and humility”, said Project Director Frode Nilsen, who for the time being is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, marketing Norwegian blasting expertise, along with several other operators in the tunnelling industry.

The jury found that the company’s internationalisation is one of the main reasons that Byggeindustrien selected LNS for the Special Award. The company has had great success in its international initiatives, in among other places, Chile and Hong Kong. From the jury’s statement: “LNS has, over several years, built up the company to become a major operator in the construction industry in Norway. During the last few years they have also concentrated their efforts overseas. They have had considerable success, and have shown that Norwegian engineering and contractor expertise have excellent opportunities to succeed abroad, if things are done properly. They have also taken several other Norwegian operators out into the global market and we hope that many others will follow the example set by LNS.
In his acceptance speech, Malvin Nilsen expressed his great thanks for the award and pointed out that there is a huge overseas market waiting for competent Norwegian contractors.
